This swimming course is like no swim class you’ve taken in the past. It’s not like the Y. It’s not like the Red Cross. It’s not what your family or friends tried to teach you. It is completely and radically different…and that’s why it works.
Class Schedule:
12-3 each day
Course is 24 hours long but 27 hours are scheduled in case a makeup day is needed due to weather.
Each meeting is one hour on land followed by 2 hours in the pool.
Masks required indoors during the dry-land portion of class.
The Essentials 1 Course is taught, Covid guidelines added.
This course is made possible by a grant from USA Swimming Foundation. The purpose is to provide free or low cost lessons to adults who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn to swim.
Miracle Swimming School for Adults (MSSA) is required to provide proof that the funds were spent on this purpose, proof of student progress, student feedback, photographs of the process, and evidence that the funding made a difference. All registrants agree to comply with these aspects of the program by their registration.
The $100 is waived for those who cannot afford it. 100% attendance is expected of all registrants. You will need to enter credit card information to complete the registration. However, the information is not visible to us and it won’t be used. Call if there is a problem.
The purpose of the $100 fee is for participants to commit a portion of the normal course fee to demonstrate commitment to attending all sessions for that month. The first half of the USA Swimming grant will be used in May for the Essentials 1 Course. The second half will be used in September for the Essentials 2 Course. This will also cost $100. This $100 will also be waived for those who take Essentials 1 in May for free. The students in September will be the same students as those who began in May so that the whole program is brought to people who began it. When students have mastered shallow water and are eager to try deep water, the course will move to another pool. Students learn at their own pace. At MSSA, learning to swim means becoming comfortable and peaceful in deep water. We begin that process at RLT. Learning strokes comes after learning to swim. Strokes are not the goal of these two courses. The goals are safety and comfort, fun and confidence, and teaching the community that learning to swim is fun, astonishing, worthwhile, and it does not have to be scary.
There may be a need for wetsuit shirts for warmth. This will be discussed at the first meeting. We will also discuss how these can be acquired.
