Jump Off the Boat

Who Takes Jump Off the Boat?

There are times when you want to be comfortable on boats and jumping in. Naturally, we teach the entire progression from scratch. You’re eligible if you’ve taken the Essentials 1 and 2 courses (formerly Beginning and Next Step) and can rest in deep water peacefully and jump into deep water in a pool (have done so at least five times). Ocean 101 and Deep Water Play are excellent precursors.

Wondering why she’s by herself in the water? Because she’s advanced that far. It’s no big deal for her anymore.

What Is the Course?

We begin by jumping into deep water in a pool. All the nonphysical components of overcoming fear and becoming fully in control are covered. Step by step your confidence increases. When this class follows Deep Water Play, students have spontaneously begun to tread water in this course. On Day 2, we spend the day on the boat. Jump into a peaceful cove and rest. Start on a tether. Then, out to the Gulf to jump into the blue, weather permitting. Learn by feeling safe and having fun. Lunch is on the boat, on MSSA.

Chidinma had a near-drowning experience 3 years ago and decided she had to do something about her fear of water. She read our book, took our Essentials 1 and 2 courses, practiced on her own for 2 years, then came to Deep Water Play. The next day was her Jump Off the Boat course. She jumped off with and without a tether. This was her finale. Hats off to you, Chidinma!
